Dr. Marion Mouton shares five ways how parents can integrate technology into their summer learning activities for students that will enhance learning while school is out.
1. Start a kidsblog to document some of activities they have planned like the zoo trips, museum, grandparent visits, etc.
2. Have students research via Wikipedia or Google Field trips places they would like to visit to learn more about their culture and traditions.
3. Limit the use of technology and include the technology with traditional learning as much as possible to supplement and complement the summer learning activity.
4. Visit http://www.tumblebooks.com and have the student complete virtual book reports via Evernote, Edmodo, or kidsblog.
5. Complete a stock market challenge. Stockwars let you do virtual trading to learn about the stock market.
Bio: Dr. Marion Mouton has more than 15 years in education with experience in the classroom and various leadership positions. He has previously served as Principal, Assistant Principal, Instructional Specialist, and a Fifth Grade Language Arts Teacher. He also served in the United States Army. Dr. Mouton holds a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master’s in Education, and a Ph.D. in Special Education with a Specialization in Administration from Texas Woman’s University. He also holds a Superintendent Certification, Principal Certification and Elementary Reading Teacher Certification. He has a passion for technology, reading, and teaching children. His goal and desire is to instill that passion for reading in your child as well. He strives to implement research-based practices that ensure all students receive equal access to education and are educated to their highest potential. He is a lifelong learner and consistently motivates staff to pursue higher education. When he is not working, Dr. Mouton enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, reading, and riding motorcycles.
