Dr. Mike Robinson: What is your Academic Resolution for 2018?
Ayodele Harrison: I commit to coaching educational leaders and facilitating training for organizations serving Black communities from a position of compassion. When I say compassion, I mean: Having an understanding that all people seek to flourish (or to cultivate meaningfulness), AND Pursue it to the best of their abilities.
So, while I might, at times, raise a question about the methods, I acknowledge that the people I serve all want the best for the educators they lead and the students, families, and communities they serve. Accepting this allows me to enter every interaction and engage every relationship with a greater sense openness and understanding. It allows me to be a better listener, ask better questions, thereby leading to solutions that have the lasting impact on the challenges they were designed to address.
