Parents need to be cognizant of their children and their daily lifestyle. Children require balance in their academic and social schedules, eating and sleeping habits. It is also important for parents to monitor their children to ensure they are developing normally and coping. I believe communication is key! Parents should discuss and promote open non-judgmental communication with their children.
This type of forum can occur daily in the car, at the dinner table or during the day. The objective is to safeguard that children are developing and there are no abnormalities. Today our children deal with a lot of peer pressure, bullying and social acceptance, trying to fit and belong. Fostering acceptance and love in the home from birth will also help build self-esteem and promote positive self-image. This will also make certain that when children are faced with challenges they will be able to make the right decisions because they have been equipped with the necessary coping skills and strategies. I also believe children should be children! There is so much pressure put upon them to excel and be the best. Sometimes they need a break to be themselves and enjoy life. It goes back to balance, finding time to enjoy their favorite hobby or sport. Participating in relaxing and therapeutic activities such as yoga, painting or playing their favorite musical instrument. Parents need to also let their children know they are always there to support them, unconditional love.
