Dr. Mike Robinson: Why are black men turning to social media?
LaMarcus J. Hall: From my experience, I was not receiving the help I needed. Before transferring, it was literally hell. Black males were not being taken seriously in the classroom. We were on all flyers and displays, but our academic progress meant nothing.
Dr. Mike Robinson: What group did you turn to and why?
LaMarcus J. Hall: I turned to Dr. Ford’s RACE MENTORING Facebook community. I was referred to the group because of issues in my doctoral program. After transferring, things changed instantly!
Dr. Mike Robinson: What did the group provide?
LaMarcus J. Hall: The group provided me a safe space to vent about issues, seek support, publish, etc.
Dr. Mike Robinson: Do you plan to be involved with the group post-graduation?
LaMarcus J. Hall: Yes! I am a proud advocate and board member for RACE MENTORING.
