Q. Why are so many African American males leaving the teaching ranks?
Initially, I started out as a teacher and considered administration but was not willing to return to school for an education degree. All three of my degrees are in business but stating that African American males are required to be present on campus in order to identify with young men. However, that motto does not necessarily transpire.
I will always be a teacher at heart but I am 40 years old and for the next 20 years I want to make 6 figures because 60K is just not enough for an MBA and now DBA. There really are not enough African Americans male teachers because of the salary associated with a teaching degree. |
