I am Dr. Mike Robinson, Founder and CEO of Forest Of The Rain Productions and your host for Parents and PGCPS: Conversations for the Engaged Parent and Dedicated Educator. 

Over the past several weeks, I have embarked on a journey across our beautifully diverse communities to talk with parents/families, educators, community and civic leaders regarding their views and perspectives about the future of education in Prince George’s County.

Below are two of those amazing voices!
Edward Burroughs, III

Edward Burroughs III is currently the youngest elected official in the State of Maryland, serving on the Prince George's County Board of Education as Board Member for District 8. A strong advocate for student achievement and activism, he believes that all students can excel with the proper support, guidance and resources.

While attending Crossland High School, he served as the Student Board Member and made history when he was re-elected for two consecutive terms. His professional interests focus on early childhood education, literacy, sound financial governance, community/parental involvement and ensuring that all PGCPS students will be able to compete globally upon graduation.

Additionally, he has served as a member of the Disability Issues Advisory Board, the Superintendent's Advisory Counsel and the Young Elected Officials Network. He was recently honored with the Prince George's County 40 under 40 Award and Who's Who in Prince George's County for his outstanding work on the Prince George's County Board of Education.

Raaheela Ahmed is the elected representative for the Prince George's County Board of Education, District 5, representing over 80,000 people in the Bowie, Upper Marlboro and Mitchellville areas. 

​This lifelong Prince Georgian and product of Prince George's County Public Schools was elected to office in November 2016 with 57% of the vote from 32,000 supporters. She first ran for the position in 2012 as an 18-year old....and nearly won. Over the course of her two campaigns, Raaheela went door-to-door to over 12,000 homes and attended dozens of community events to better understand the needs of the community.

As a board member, Raaheela has been a vocal and active advocate for the community. She’s zipped around the district to attend 250+ meetings and events in her first year on the board, and doesn’t plan to slow down anytime soon! Inherently, grassroots, service-based leadership is what she's all about. Outside of the board, Raaheela serves as the Manager of Leadership Programs for New American Leaders.
