Dr. Miranda Avant-Elliott
Dr. Miranda Avant-Elliott (M.A.E.) is a life-long learner and community leader. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Clark Atlanta University, a Master of Teaching degree in Special Education from Webster University, and Master in Education degree with an emphasis on Urban Leadership from Maryville University. In 2013, Dr. Avant-Elliott earned her Educational Specialist and Doctorate degrees from St. Louis University in Educational Leadership, where she was also inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society for her academic achievements. In 2018, she received a certification in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University and was recently accepted into the St. Louis Public Schools Reading Specialist Cohort program at the University of Missouri St. Louis.
Dr. Avant-Elliott has passionately served as a Missouri public school educator and leader for over 17 years. She is licensed in the state of Missouri as a special education teacher, secondary principal, superintendent, and career and technical education director. She is also an educational consultant for her business Systems Thinkers LLC, where she offers school improvement services to k-12 districts. Dr. Avant-Elliott is the author of a statewide college and career readiness resource site to assist the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) with meeting their postsecondary goals. She has also served on several DESE committees throughout her career as an educator.
In addition to her successful career as an educator, Dr. Avant-Elliott currently serves as Alderwoman and President of the Board of Alderman for the City of Bellefontaine Neighbors for a second term. In this role, she is responsible for impacting the effective operations of the city and improving services for the community. In addition to her many leadership responsibilities, Dr. Avant-Elliott is involved in several community organizations and initiatives aimed at impacting the lives of youth.
Dr. Avant-Elliott was recently honored as an African American elected official by Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, received the Power 100 Everyday Hero Award from Deluxe Magazine, awarded Counselor Advocate of the Year by the St. Louis Counselor Association, and two Living Legend Awards.
