Strategies for Educators
For teachers, by teachers!
This guide was created by the Applied Educational Neuroscience Certification 19/20 cohort at Butler University’s College of Education. The hope of this collaborative booklet is to provide teachers, administrators, related service providers, counselors, social workers, building staff, and anyone else who works with our youth a resource filled to the brim with practical, everyday strategies that address our brain states. It all starts with you! If we want to make a lasting change in the lives of our students we must first begin within ourselves. Neuroscience shows us that a dysregulated brain cannot learn, that our emotions are contagious, and that we are equipped with special structures to mirror and empathize with the world around us. Thus, we are the epicenter of this change. We must practice these regulation strategies ourselves not only to serve as a model but to show our students that it is ok, that personal well-being is just as important as math, reading, and writing. |
