The Journey He and His Wife Traveled in Her Battle with Cancer

Dr. Mike Robinson: How long were you married?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: 14 years
Dr. Mike Robinson: Where did you meet?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: High school
Dr. Mike Robinson: What made her so special that you fell in love with and married her?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: In high school, she was an avid reader.
Dr. Mike Robinson: How many children do you guys have?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: 2 Boys aged 14 and 3
Dr. Mike Robinson: When did she pass away?

Dr. Mike Robinson: What was the cause of her death?
Kim Woodbury Jr.:The cancer spread to her lung.
Dr. Mike Robinson: What type of cancer did she have?
Kim Woodbury Jr.:Triple-negative metaplastic carcinoma
Dr. Mike Robinson: How and when did you two discover she had cancer?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: When she was pregnant with our youngest
Dr. Mike Robinson: How hard was it to tell the children, family, and friends?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: Family and friends were easy to tell. They were very supportive and wanted to help in any way they could. Our oldest was more difficult as he felt helpless.
Dr. Mike Robinson: Can you share one aspect of her journey that stays with you?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: She felt lonely a lot.
Dr. Mike Robinson: Can you share how you and your family supported/cared for your wife during her journey?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: I’m a traveling worker, so our family would help do the things I couldn’t by taking care of the children, coming over to help cook and clean and bringing her comfort.
Dr. Mike Robinson: How did the cancer treatment affect her day-to-day life?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: She spent so much time in bed her legs began to atrophy; she coughed nonstop and had constant fevers.
Dr. Mike Robinson: What advice can you offer to husbands on supporting their wives as they battle cancer?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: The answer is always, “Yes, Dear, I’m doing it right now.”
Dr. Mike Robinson: In your opinion, can husbands have a support group and not take away the attention of their wives’ journey?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: No, as the journeys are not the same. Both parties need to be supported and cared for.
Dr. Mike Robinson: Is the discussion of intimacy and sex taboo for couples to discuss during the journey? And how should it be approached, in your opinion?
Kim Woodbury Jr.: Absolutely not. Due to it not being discussed, I struggled with the drastic change in her body figure. I like a clinical approach. For instance, the struggle to maintain attraction throughout the process. LISTEN BELOW
