Benefiskool Academic Tutoring Services
Andrea Peoples-Marwah has researched Multiple Intelligences with an emphasis on musical and visual/spatial intelligences. She is the author of the book titled Visual/Spatial and Musical Intelligences: The Effects on Sixth Grade Ohio Proficiency (OPT) Math Scores and is currently working on several articles for publication. She studied Education Administration and Policy Studies at The George Washington University, Washington DC.
Dr. Peoples-Marwah has had a wide range of students (K thru college) from teaching within the sciences and health to teaching strategies for college math, strategies for the technical professional, and group dynamics. Her expertise lies in Biology, Chemistry, and Alternative Medicine as well as creating laboratory exercises that are considered non-traditional in style but which engages students to excel in learning and to develop an interest in the sciences and in health. Her areas of interest also include curriculum development and instruction, administration, and education policy. She hopes to participate in implementing MI policy into programs for educators to craft their teaching methods in favor of Multiple Intelligences to allow for all students to learn.
Dr. Peoples-Marwah was a participant in an on-going research with the M.I.N.D Institute of Irvine, California which allowed students to embrace their musical/acting talents and then combine these talents into learning math skills and successfully completing the program.
Andrea is also an actress and advocate for the visual and performing arts. She enjoys using her acting talents (singing and dancing) to make learning for students more exciting while they learn content for comprehension and understanding.
Q. How is Your Work Changing The Narrative?
My contributions to the African-American Community is truly representative of my culture, where we come from, where we stand today, and the future of our tomorrow. I have been committed to educating our kids in the sciences (STEM) to allow them to fully grasp the concepts and to appreciate the outcomes of hard work. I have been taught and mentored by some of the most extraordinary individuals in my life and making a strong promise to them that I, too, would carry their legacy to the greatest of lengths in order to give back to my community. Education has proven to be an area that is (and has historically been) subjected to racial disparities and social inequities. Unfairness in access to education, ridicule of wanting to do better, blatant prejudicial stereotypes et al., are all serious issues that must be addressed openly and without hesitance.
My educational knowledge and expertise in identifying these issues and being able to argue my position has proven beneficial in that changes are being made, whether openly or subtly. Our kids I hold very dear to my heart. Doubts in their abilities and in their intelligence has warranted me over the last two decades that I've been active in education and research to press the importance of Multiple Intelligences and that every child, regardless of his/her ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and life experiences are deemed as intelligent. Being able to help children overcome their intimidation of the sciences through experiential, investigational and navigational research by ways of culturing and catering to their individual intelligences and life experiences has been truly rewarding. Sharing with fellow educators the necessities of individualizing an education plan for each child with various learning styles has equally been rewarding. Most importantly, we are all representative of humanity and reflect various cultures and ethnicities. We must continue to construct progressive and productive pathways in order to understand the importance of treating each other humanely. Education is diversity. Education should represent all. If there is no room for all, then there is no room for me.
