Welcome to Parents and PGCPS: Conversations for the Engaged Parent and Dedicated Educator. I am your host Dr. Michael Robinson. Over the past several days, I have embarked on a journey across our beautifully diverse communities to talk with parents/families, educators, community and civic leaders regarding their views and perspectives about the future of education in Prince George’s County.
One of those voices is that of Mr. Walter R. Kirkland.

Mr. Walter Kirkland is from Mount Vernon, New York. He is a graduate of Mount Vernon High School where he earned a full athletic scholarship to Rutgers University located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He graduated with a B.S. degree, and was a 4-year All American Track & Field athlete. He won several National NCAA Awards during his athletic career. Walter has worked in several high profile sales / management roles with Xerox, Honeywell and Samsung Electronics America. He has over 20 + years of sales / PR Marketing experience.
He is also a graduate of Columbia School of Broadcasting (2010), Walter has been trained in SPIN Selling, Miller Heiman, and Total Quality Management (TQM). He also the founding President of the 100 Black Men of Prince Georges County Inc. (2012 to 2016) Executive Chair of the March for Babies (2012 to Present / Prince Georges County. (2013 to 2007). He currently mentors over 30 (+) youth in Prince Georges County.

Walter really believes in a “WIN/ WIN” customer focused approach. His consultative “coaching” style has helped him earn numerous Leadership and Sales awards over the years. Top Sales Representative (2010 – 2016),Copa Style Magazine “Man of the Year 2017, 2016 Community Award Winner / Ward 6, DC Nitelife Community Award 2016 and 2017, Ernest Just Outstanding Mentoring Award 2012, and Toys for Tots Community Award 2015. And Walter sits on several Boards in the region.
Walter is married and lives in Silver Spring Maryland, and has 2 sons Chase and Garrett.
