Bio of a Narrative Changer: Arianna A. Grant Ed.S has a passion for education and loves her job. She has been an educator for the past 18 years. Arianna has served in various capacities throughout her career. While holding the titles of Lead Teacher, School facilitator, Dean of Students and Assistant Principal, she also served as a mentor, role model, and surrogate mother. Outside of her school responsibilities, she would take students outside of the neighborhood and involve them in several different learning experiences that she personally funded, in order to expose the young ladies to various aspects of life. These young ladies learned skills that would take them far beyond the classroom. This passion prompted her to co-find the Sister-to-Sister mentor program and to found the Excel: I AM mentor program both focused on empowering young ladies to love themselves first. Arianna is able to share with these young ladies her life experiences and use it as an example of how hard work and determination can change any circumstance. She has developed and is implementing “A Better Me” mentoring and life skills program for a local girls basketball league. In addition to mentoring, Arianna is currently in pursuit of becoming a certified life coach and jump starting her own business which will coach, mentor, and/or tutor. .
How is your work changing the Narrative? I believe teaching is what I was put on this earth to do. This is my purpose. I am always in teacher mode and I love what I do. Anything that I do for my “children “ is because I want to and not because I have to. When I signed my contract with the school system I made a vow to be an advocate for my babies. There were and will probably be many more occasions where I go “above the call of duty” for them. I would hope that anyone who is standing in front of someone else’s child has the same attitude. I don’t believe I am special, I am just doing my job…from the heart.
