Dr. Sairah Qureshi Bullying and Racist Bullying in Schools: What are we Missing?
Bullying is an alarming problem that affects thousands of children and their families. According to the National Education Association an estimated 160,000 children miss school every day because they fear being attacked or intimidated by other students. The numbers are alarming but what is really being done about the problem? In her new book, Bullying and Racist Bullying in Schools: What ARE we missing?, Dr. Sairah Qureshi addresses the core issue by discussing what schools, parents and educators are missing when it comes to dealing with bullying and racism and presents solutions that are relevant and applicable to the education system.
Bullying and Racist Bullying in Schools is adapted from Dr. Qureshi’s PhD thesis. Her thesis focuses on young people’s perceptions of what exactly bullying and racist bullying is, the signs and causes, why it occurs and how it is manifested around the school environment. She uses these key elements to diagnose areas for growth in anti-bullying education within the school curriculum and presents recommendations which include methods to eradicate all forms of bullying. This incisive book also features modules and class-based activities; an ideal tool for school teachers, educators and researchers.
“This book has been inspired by the very dreams and desires of young people who want a prevention to bullying, but through policies that makes sense to them as well as legitimately put into place by the school via the educational curriculum and extra-curricular activities,” Dr. Qureshi says.
Eye-opening and relevant, Bullying and Racist Bullying in Schools is a must-read for teachers, educators, parents and in general concerned individuals who want to put an end to the pervasive problem of bullying.
