Dr. Michael Robinson, the host of The Yard, was joined by Oscar Hawthrone, a 1991 graduate of Kentucky State University. Oscar discussed how his time as an undergraduate at Kentucky State University prepared him for leadership in public K-12 education. He also shared his views on the type of effective fiscal leadership Kentucky State University will need to return to a leading institution of higher education.

Oscar Hawthorne is currently the Deputy Superintendent for North Chicago School District 187.Oscar Hawthorne has over 25 years of experience in a variety of teaching and school leadership positions. His background includes serving as principal at Streamwood High School, assistant superintendent/principal at Evanston Township High School, and principal at Proviso West High School. Mr. Hawthorne earned his Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies Education from Kentucky State University, Master of Arts in Education Administration from Governors State University, and Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University.
