The Middle School Student, Culture, and Challenges
The middle school age is a time of changes and challenges. There are many new experiences in this stage of development. Each change takes on various forms. But beyond the changing social and emotional needs, middle school students are coming into their own with thoughts and views about their present circumstances and future goals. Dr. Dwayne Ham, a veteran school counselor, and administrator shared his perspective on the middle school student.

Dr. Ham served as assistant principal for 6 years. First, at Amidon-Bowen Elementary School, DCPS for 5 years. He assists with administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for students using blended learning and common core curriculum in math and reading.
