Answers 4 Questions About the NFL and Jay-Z's Partnership
Dr. Michael Robinson: What are your thoughts about the NFL and Jay-Z’s partnership?
Ronda Racha Penrice: My thoughts are mixed. It just feels odd but, at the same time, there was a settlement between the NFL and Kaepernick. Like so many, I am not exactly sure what to feel. If this position comes with Kaep getting back in the game, then that's cool. If it only lines Jay-Z's pocket, then it's not worth it for me. It's just ridiculous that Kaep doesn't seem to be getting a fair shake.
Dr. Michael Robinson: Do you think Jay-Z was right when he said we have moved past kneeling?
Ronda Racha Penrice: It's not about physical action. We haven't moved past the need for resistance. Dismissing the kneeling doesn't cancel that reality.
Dr. Michael Robinson: And to want extent do you think now that Jay-Z is in partnership with the NFL more entertainers will end their personal boycott and participate in events such as the half-time show of the Super Bowl?
Ronda Racha Penrice: If the NFL doesn't improve its policies, then why should people perform? Capitalism truly sucks as a concept because it's not based on any notions of true communal good.
Dr. Michael Robinson: Finally, does this allow the NFL to move away from the Colin Kaepernick conversation?
Ronda Racha Penrice: No, this move doesn't allow the NFL to move away from the Kaep issue. At the end of the day, he is still being penalized for exercising his free speech. Him not being affiliated with any team, despite making a Super Bowl appearance, just goes to show that he is being punished for daring to be righteous. What he is asking for is just humane. He is bringing attention to the right thing and it sucks that the NFL refuses to join the right side.
