Dr. Mike Robinson: What is the mission of the School of Discovery?
The School of Discovery: The mission of the School of Discovery Genesis Center (SOD) is to provide a child-centered, integrated curriculum of academics, technology, and the arts. The school’s environment will allow collaboration among stakeholders to help children discover and develop their individual talents and interests while recognizing their roles within the school and community
Dr. Mike Robinson: What makes the School of Discovery so unique?
School of Discovery: In my opinion, what makes SOD unique is that we are one of, if not the only, all sixth-grade school in the state. Why is that important? As you know Selma is a very unique city with its many enclaves and neighborhoods, bringing all the sixth-grade students together in one school, provides an opportunity to help guide them through the many pitfalls of maturity and to help shape their view of the world and what their role will be in that world. This school gives sixth graders a chance to be the "masters" of their own universe, if only for one year. I think it is important to give sixth-graders their "own space" during this transition from a child to a preteen.
Dr. Mike Robinson: Why was the School of Discovery established?
School of Discovery: I'm not sure why SOD was established, but I'm certainly glad it was.
School Of Discovery is unique in that we are a campus of only sixth graders. Each morning approximately 300 amazing boys and girls enter our doors.
