Dr. Michael Robinson: Does acclaimed scholarly work, recognition (awards), and success inside and outside the academy for Black Faculty have the potential to turn faculty and administrators into their enemies?
Dr. Vivian Carter: Whether in the Black Academy or the PWIs you will find haters. Your success will spark envy and competition, its the nature of the academy. My suggestion is to develop strong support systems among colleagues that are genuine in and outside of the academy. Always be cognizant of your institution or agency's policies and procedures and follow them. You should not give power to the haters, recognize who they are and keep moving forward with minimal engagement. That has been my experience.
