Dr. Mike Robinson: How do you think the work being done at the PCPS BOE is viewed across the State?
Dr. Juanita Miller: Dr. Robinson, The administration of PGCPS is in great shape. Our system has served as a model to other jurisdictions in the region. People need to understand; the Board is responsible for governance, policy annual budget review, and oversight of the system. All BOE operations are separate from school administration. The CEO is responsible for all day-to-day operations.
Dr. Mike Robinson: Did you discuss your decision to cancel Board meetings with other BOE members? And if so, can you share some of the feedback you receive, and if not, why not have this discussion with your fellow members.
Dr. Juanita Miller: Let's be very clear, Board operations continue. Sub-committees continue to meet and communicate with their constituents. Also, six other Board members support the allegations. I am a taxpayer and my observations of Board operations raised significant concerns relative to how tax dollars are being spent.
Dr. Mike Robinson: Have you received a response from the State Superintendent, Dr. Salmon, regarding your concerns?
Dr. Juanita Miller: We await feedback from the state board.
Dr. Mike Robinson: Finally, what are your thoughts on the reopening plan presented by the CEO this past week?
Dr. Juanita Miller: The CEO has taken all precautions and met with various professionals, including the medical field, before being compliant with the Governors' mandate to reopen schools. Further, parents have the option to either send their children back or to continue with distance learning.
