When I teach classes I watch the kids. I watch their reactions, their behavior, and the work they do. But I also listen to them. To their reasoning, excuses, questions, wants, and needs.
At times there are students that behave in one way and speak in another, or say some things but do others.
Working with the kids on what an action is, and then applying that to a character allows them to see who their characters really are. The discussion of who a person is by their actions and not by the persons words is a conversation that benefits students.
Teaching that actions speak louder than words is a way to cross the bridge between reality and narrative story telling. And this builds a realization into the students world, what they do effects what people think of them and who they really are as people.
