Forest Of The Rain Productions: What exactly is the role of a Behavioral Specialist? How does a Behavioral Specialist support parents?
Dawn Riddick: In my role as a Behavioral Specialist, I work with students and parents in the area of behavior modification within a school setting. As a Behavioral Specialist, I conduct daily walk-throughs of the building with a mission to support teachers as they work with those students with behavior issues in a timely manner. The primary goal is to keep students in the classroom as a means to lessen time away from instruction. Another component of my responsibility is to create daily goals or behavior plans for students who may need them within the classroom. I help teachers use different learning styles to meet the needs of their students. An essential aspect of my role as a Behavioral Specialist is my work with parents. This work involves working with parents to develop behavior plans by gathering
information from the parents that may be helpful in supporting students and teachers.
